Research Collaboration (International)
There were many opportunities for international collaboration between the Blue-Green Cities Research Project and similar programmes investigating flood risk management and sustainable Blue-Green infrastructure, e.g. in Europe (Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Lodz), North America and Canada (Oregon, Philadelphia, New York, Nova Scotia), and Australia (Melbourne). Links were developed with many of the authorities in these locations to identify and share best practice as well as with bodies such as the International Water Association (IWA) Cities of the Future Programme, and European Programmes, e.g. Managing Adaptive Responses to changing Flood Risk (MARE).
University of Nottingham Ningbo China
The Blue-Green Cities team collaborated with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China via Faith Chan, an expert in urban flood risk and its management in Asian Megacities.
Blue-Green Cities in Portland, Oregon
Between April 21-28 2013, the Blue-Green Cities team undertook a mission to Portland, Oregon, to initiate a significant international collaboration with the City of Portland. Important links were made with the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) and The Intertwine, a coalition for parks, trails and nature in the Portland Oregon & Vancouver Washington region. Blue-Green Cities received support from the NSF/EPSRC Clean Water for All programme for collaborative research with several partners from the U.S. Pacific North West in 2014. The team co-located to Portland, Oregon, during May 2014, and worked on the Johnson Creek watershed. The programme culminated in a final dissemination meeting at the University of Nottingham's campus in Ningbo, China, in June 2015.
